HAIKU HEIGHTS 315 EXPECTATION

Inspired by the theme at

A long time ago I was a regular participant in this haiku meme of Leo at Haiku Heights, but as I started my own daily haiku meme I couldn't find the time to participate. So this is after a long time my contribution to this week theme "expactation".
Expectation ... a nice theme for sure in this time of the year, because we are closing into the end of 2013 and start almost with a whole new year 2014. 2014 Will be another great year I think, not at least because of the fact that I will become again a granddad, but also because of my daily haiku meme Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. I am looking forward to this new year and I hope that Carpe Diem Haiku Kai will grow further and that our haiku-family will grow too.

Here is my attempt to write a haiku with the theme Expectation

a whole new year
what will it bring to us?

what to expect?

Not a strong one, it's more like a quote or senryu, so another one more in the haiku-sphere:

cherry blossom buds
almost ready to open up

expecting brightness

Well ... I hope you did like the read ... and maybe see you somewhere else or maybe visit http://chevrefeuillescarpediem.blogspot.com

Haiku Heights #254, Moral

Inspired by the theme at

It's to long that I have posted here a new haiku (or two, or three ...), so tonight I thought "let me look at Haiku Heights" to see what their prompt is for this week. It turned out to be Moral, that's not an easy one. So I have given it some thought and came up with the next haiku:

honor your parents
don't let them feel sad about you -

family of swans

Credits: Family of Swans

I think this is a nice haiku on Moral. I hope you enjoyed the read. See you again somewhere some time.

Haiku Heights April Challenge 2013, Candle

Inspired by the theme at

Today our prompt in the A2Z Challenge of Haiku Heights is Candle so I have to write a haiku with that prompt. Hm ... that must be easy ... though I had the need for some time to compose this one.

candle in the wind
dancing shadows on the wall -
souls climbing to Heaven

Well ... It has become a spiritual one today.

Haiku Heights April Challenge 2013, Butterfly

Inspired by the theme at

Today the Haiku Heights prompt is Butterfly, a nice prompt I think and I love to share a few haiku on this prompt.

in the Buddleia
fluttering of fragile wings
waving on the wind

Another one:

waving on the wind
butterflies resting in the sun
on the Buddleia

And a nice set of Butterfly haiku to enclose this post:

the cobweb scattered
by the fluttering of wings
a blue butterfly

on the verandah
a yellowish butterfly
the light of sun down

Well ... see you tomorrow again.

Haiku Heights April 2013 challenge, Ascent

Inspired by the theme at

Today the Haiku Heights April 2013 Challenge has started. It's a while ago that I posted a weblog-post for Haiku Heights, but today I will start again with posting for Haiku Heights. I hope to succeed, because my own daily haiku meme Carpe Diem will need my attention too.

The first prompt for this April Challenge of Haiku Heights is "Ascent", not an easy one, but I think I can write a haiku with it.

spiritual quest
leads me towards the mountains
ascension is near

ascension is near
finally I will become
enlightened

Well ... it wasn't an easy start, but I am glad that I succeeded. Hope to see you tomorrow again.

Haiku Heights, Shimmer

Inspired by the theme at

It's a long time ago, February 1st, that I have posted here on my haiku-blog. I am to busy with my daily haiku meme Carpe Diem to write here on my first weblog about haiku. Today I ran into Haiku Heights the wonderful website on haiku writing hosted by Leo. This week's prompt is shimmer and I love to share the next haiku with you, my dear visitors:

shimmering bright
between colorful leaves
a pebble

Just a nice stil live I think, another one maybe:

crystal clear dewdrops
shimmering in the first sunlight -
a cobweb

Awesome! Isn't it? Sorry how immodest, but I really like these haiku. Looking forward to next week's prompt, breeze.

Haiku Heights # death

Inspired by the theme at

A new week of haiku writing has gone with the wind ... several weeks ago I posted a post here for Haiku Heights. I haven't had time to participate in this weekly haiku meme for a few weeks mostly during lack of time and the time I spent on my own daily haiku meme Carpe Diem but I had to write a haiku for this weeks prompt 'death':

frost on the branches
the cobweb crystalizes in the sunlight
a death spider

a death spider
hanging in it's crystal cobweb
food for the birds

Haiku Heights #200, wish

Inspired by the theme at

I haven't had time to participate the last weeks in Haiku Heights, but this week's prompt I couldn't let go. This week the prompt is WISH and that's of course something for this time of year.

Dragon's departure
entering the year of the Snake -
good wishes

Year of the Snake (2013)

Some background:

Sign of the Snake

According to ancient Chinese wisdom, being born in the year of the Snake is a good omen; it means your family will never starve. Whether this is intended metaphorically -- because the snake is a great mediator and therefore good at business -- or literally -- because a Snake would sacrifice his many possessions to pay for food -- is often debated. In either case, it is clear that a Snake is considered a good provider as a result of his wisdom. This wisdom, however, can on occasion become cunning trickery, as a Snake is known to plot to get exactly what he wants. The Snake is also profoundly private, and as such, as known as a poor communicator -- possessive of both his words and his emotions.

Character Traits
: Snake

Positive
: Wise, creative, shrewd, responsible, purposeful
Negative: Loner, distrustful, suffocating, cold

Well ... maybe 'till next week.

Haiku Heights, nature

Inspired by the theme at

Time flies ... another week has gone. I heard this was a tough week for several American states because of the big storm 'Sandy'. How come that this kind of storms have such lovely, soft and sweet names as 'Sandy'?
I didn't really follow the news on this big storm, but I heard enough about it to understand that nature (our HH prompt for today) is a very powerful force on our little blue planet Earth.

nature's force
hits the East American Coast
uprooted trees

how strong the power
of Mother Earths energy
superstorm Sandy

strong human race
will rebuild their environment
a new experience

around the mansion
daisies standing strong together
after the storm

Well ... next week another prompt. For now I wish the people who were in the midst of this superstorm a lot of health, power and offer my prayers to them who have lost a loved one or have had a lot of damage.

Be strong!

Haiku Heights, Witch

Inspired by the theme at

Also published for: Carpe Diem

This week's prompt is Witch, and I was the one who proposed this one, so have to come up with a good one (smiles). It's almost Halloween, so witches, ghosts, wizards, kobolds and other magical and mystical creatures are sneaking around.

all souls night
witches sneaking around
searching for lost souls

"trick or treat!"
a bunch of goblins
on the frontyard

skyclad witches
adoring and worshipping
the blue moon

the blue moon
reflects in the witches soup
between frog heads

This was my contribution to HH Witch for this week. See you next week ....

Haiku Heights, shroud

For Haiku Heights' prompt 'shroud' I have composed this new haiku.

beneath the shroud
a pharaoh travels to the stars
everlasting life

Egyptian mummy-shroud

I love this haiku on shroud. I think this one is one of my masterpieces (how immodest for a haiku poet).

See you next week.

Haiku Heights, home

Inspired by the theme at

After a month of writing haiku every day we are back to the normal rhythm. Today the prompt for Haiku Heights is home a wonderful prompt I think to write a haiku about. So let's go ... and look if I am in a good flow to write a haiku (or a few).

September Heights, day 2: Color

Inspired by the theme at

September Heights, day 2: color ... Another nice prompt. Colors? Everywhere around me, around us are colors. The color of the sunrise, the color of the flowers and all those different tones of green of leaves and bushes. The colors of the birds ... and the colors of the people around us.
I am an observer ... when I sit on a terrace I love to watch people who are passing by. I enjoy that very much ... sometimes they walk towards me and starting to talk with me, but I also experienced sometimes some anger, because not everyone is glad to be watched at, but most of the time ... people are vainglorious (in the positive way of course) and love to be watched.
I myself, somewhat in vain maybe, love it when people are watching me. Yes ... I know ... not an act of a haiku poet heh ... but I am just a guy who writes haiku (and sometimes novels).

This was my take on color for today's September Heights, enjoy the read, see you tomorrow ... with another wonderful prompt loneliness. Be inspired ... enjoy ...

Warm greetings,

September Heights, day 1: drawbridge

Inspired by the theme at

Well ... this is it ... the kick-off of a new Haiku Heights Challenge. Let's go and have some fun with writing haiku inspired on given prompts.

Another new September Heights Challenge to write an every day haiku on a given theme. I loved doing this last April and I hope this new September Heights will be again a joy to participate in.
Let's go starting the haiku engines (smiles).

Today the prompt given is drawbridge. I think I can write some nice haiku with this one. So ... let's get on with it.

As you know I am living in The Netherlands. We, the Dutch people, have a long history in conquering the waters, but we are also known for our skills in bridge building. In our lovely capital, Amsterdam, we have some well known drawbridges e.g. "De Magere Brug" or "The Skinny Bridge".

Credits: The Skinny Bridge
It's one of my favorite bridges of Amsterdam. So I thought 'maybe I can write a haiku (or two) about this Skinny Bridge'.

walking through the city
crossing the canals of Amsterdam
the skinny bridge

the skinny bridge
here I lost my heart to her
walking through the city

Hm ... not a strong one I think, but that's not up to me to decide ... you my visitors can say what you think about it.

See you tomorrow,

Chèvrefeuille (a.k.a. Basho2012 and Kristjaan Panneman)

Summer heat
Green leaves turning yellow
Already autumn

Already autumn
This tropical heat in the Low lands
Yearning for coolness

Well see you all next week.

Have a great weekend.

Haiku Heights, Meaning (#154)

Inspired by the theme at

Good day visitors, poets, haijin and every one else,

This week was a busy week. I had to work several days and I have started to write a new novel (in Dutch by the way). So I hadn't much time to surf on the WWW and look after my own websites (weblogs) and those of my Haiku friends.

Also I hadn't time to look on Leo's weblog "Haiku Heights", if I could find the time than I had earlier posted a new haiku for Haiku Heights. This weeks theme is Meaning not an easy one, but I have to try of course (smiles). Meaning? What's meaning? Is this about e.g. the meaning of life or the meaning of writing haiku?

I write haiku since the late eighties and I love it very much. To me writing haiku brings a bit more meaning to my life. In the early 21th century I became Internationally known as a haiku poet ... from that time on I only write my haiku in English. English isn't my maiden language so sometimes I have to search the WWW for synonyms and meanings of the English words. So I thought that I had to search for the meaning of Meaning, but I don't think that's necessary. So here I go.

I think not the theme is difficult, but the form ... Haiku Heights prefers the classical haiku form 5-7-5 so that's making it difficult for me, because I write my haiku in the Kanshicho-style in which the classical syllable count isn't used, but ... well I have to try (smiles)

the meaning of life
being here in Mother Earth's arms
sharing my love

Maybe ... 'till next week ....

Haiku Heights, "Joy"

What a joy! A new Haiku heights Saturday. Finally summer in my country and that gives me a lot of joy. So to write a haiku with this prompt ... well it wasn't easy, but it was a joy and fun.

what a joy
finally summer in the low lands
tropical heat

tropical heat
the Fuchsia looks sad
dried out

Fuchsia

dried out
the grass becoming yellowish
what a sad sight

what a sad sight
but also fun, rain is pouring down
what a joy

Have a nice week, 'till next saturday.

Haiku Heights, "Pine"

Another week has gone by. Today's prompt from Haiku Heights is pine. I was inspired by a haibun by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) titled "The Narrow Road to the Deep North". In this haibun somewhere he writes about the twin pine and is anxious to see it, but the twin pine is cut and used for a bridge. Basho's "Narrow Road" is a classical piece of literature and for sure worth reading. Click on the above link and you can read the whole version of his "Narrow Road".
