HAIKU HEIGHTS 315 EXPECTATION

A long time ago I was a regular participant in this haiku meme of Leo at Haiku Heights, but as I started my own daily haiku meme I couldn't find the time to participate. So this is after a long time my contribution to this week theme "expactation".
Expectation ... a nice theme for sure in this time of the year, because we are closing into the end of 2013 and start almost with a whole new year 2014. 2014 Will be another great year I think, not at least because of the fact that I will become again a granddad, but also because of my daily haiku meme Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. I am looking forward to this new year and I hope that Carpe Diem Haiku Kai will grow further and that our haiku-family will grow too.

Beginning, for Ese's Weekly shot and quote challenge

Good day dear visitors,

It's really a joy to publish another post here at my base haiku-blog. I ran into a wonderful challenge to day which I love to share with you all and which I had to take. I like challenges so
Ese's Weekly shot and quote challenge, Beginning I love to try. It's the goal to use a photo and a quote to write a poem, to me of course, that will be haiku.

As I have it right this is the quote which belongs to the photo I love to use:

Well ... let me try it ... here it goes my first attempt for Ese's new challenge:

new beginnings
everything is still ahead -
cherry blossoms bloom

cherry blossoms bloom
finally spring has conquered winter
a new light rises

a new light rises
cherry blossoms fall silently
at last cherries

at last cherries
bare branches will bloom again -
new beginnings

Fragile beauty

Fragile beauty, a few new cascading haiku.


Yesterday was a wonderful and sunny day here in The Netherlands and I could make a few wonderful photos in my backyard. Finally Spring has come, my Sakura is in full bloom and the Rhodondendron also. What a joy to see those fragile Cherry blossoms and the big flowers of the Rhodondendron. The greater part of my backyard is fallow and is waiting for new garden plans, but ... well ... it has to wait, because we will start first in our frontyard with planting new plants and flowers.

Back to yesterday. As I made a few photos of my Cherry Tree I saw a snail crawl between the young Cherry blossoms.

I had to write a haiku about this event (smiles). So here it goes.

between fragility
a snail seeking it's path to Heaven
slowly, so slowly

slowly, so slowly
a snail between young Cherry blossoms 
seeks it's path

seeks it's path
a snail moves to the top
between fragility


It's just a little wonder to see this in my own backyard. And it's even a greater wonder to have the courage to compose a haiku on this event.

It's worth a celebration to see the Sakura in full bloom after a long, cold and dark Winter. But as I hear the weather forecast for today I am so anxious to see that the fragile blossoms will be gone soon, because we get strong winds and heavy rains. I can imagine how the classic Japanese haiku poets had that same fear when the weather changed and gusts of wind will tear the Cherry Blossoms apart. I am praying that not all of the Cherry Blossoms will be gone after today.

It's heartbreaking to see how the wind is tearing apart the fragile Sakura blossoms ... I was so happy to see that finally Spring has come and now ... that joy turned into sadness, but ... next Spring the Sakura blossoms will return and will bring happiness again.

September Heights, day 30 free

This is the last day of September Heights, it was a joy to participate in this challenge to write a haiku every day on a given prompt. Today our journey will end and we have to wait 'till April 2013 for a new April Heights.
The prompt for today is free given by Rachana. So I can take this for real and write a haiku on 'free' or I can write a haiku without a given prompt, that's also free I think. But ... I would like to share a few haiku which I have written in the past.

Last Spring I contributed a set of haiku to the haiku-contest of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF) as I did in 2011 and in 2010. In 2010 one of my haiku got a honorable mention which made me very proud. This year ... none of my two haiku got a prize or a honorable mention, but I love both haiku very much and I think they are both wonderful. The VCBF haiku-contest is over so I can post my contribution of this year here.

I love seeing my Cherry Tree bloom. It's almost magical when I see the fragile blossoms open. In the moonlight they look even more fragile ... so wonderful and mysterious.

Dancing, a haibun

In the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep ... to much thoughts tolling around in my head. Even the ones I love to have about haiku. I see every hour go by. At last I go downstairs. Have something to eat and drink and maybe ... that's making me sleepy.

As I look through the window I see that a new day is dawning. The sky colors in the most wonderful reddish and yellowish. With a smile on my face I see the first blossom of the cherry tree in my backyard. I walk outside. I am so in love with my cherry tree and when the first blossoms begin blooming I become very happy. My thousand thoughts have gone. I only have eyes for the young cherry blossoms.

And than ... birds begin to sing in a most wonderful symphony ... it's the ultimate experience and leaves me in awe. I forget everything around me and start dancing. I love this feeling of freedom and happiness. It's really a great and wonderful morning.

I wonder ... why has the Almighty given me this great present. I bow my head and than I see my naked body. A smile on my face ... "this is freedom!"

Music was always my first love until I discovered haiku. Music became less interesting and writing haiku became my passion. In this weblog I will try to combine both. So I will write a few new haiku (impromptu) with music (or an association on it) as theme.

Haiku My Heart

The blossoms return! Yes ... I have seen that. In my garden the first cherry blossom has been spotted, so yes the blossoms return ... finally Spring is coming after a long cold winter. As I walk through the park that's near my house I see the crocuses bloom and the narcissus, but also the flowering Trees are coming in bloom. It's a wonder .... I love the sight of these fragile blossoms and flowers and all the pretty colors. It makes me very happy.
Today I have written a blog about the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival it's a great festival in Vancouver (Canada) to celebrate their 40.000 cherry trees coming in bloom. You can read that blog here They have a haiku invitational to write haiku about cherry blossoms. I have contributed two haiku for that haiku invitational.

Today's Haiku My Heart haiku is about cherry trees. It's an (as I call it) an Impromptu verse, just written without a 'trigger' to write it.

ah! sweet perfume
of the young cherry trees
first time blooming


on an old branch
a young sprout of cherry
blooming again

Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival haiku invitational

Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival

Good day my dear visitors,

Every year in Vancouver (Canada) there is a wonderful festival, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, to celebrate the 40.000 cherry trees of Vancouver coming in bloom. It's a great festival, although I have never been there, celebrating the Cherries.
Every year during the festival there is a Haiku Challenge to write haiku about Cherry Blossoms and Cherry Trees and of course their beauty. I have participated in that, so called Haiku Invitational,  several times. It's lovely to write haiku about Cherry Trees and their beauty. And in 2010 my haiku won a honorable mention in the International category.
When you will participate in this Haiku Invitational you have to write two haiku about Cherry Trees, Cherry Blossom and all other themes on Cherries. Maybe it's something for you my dear visitor. Try and write a haiku or two about Cherries and contribute them to the Haiku Invitational 2012. Look for more information on the website of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival.

I have contributed my haiku for the Invitational today ... maybe I win this time ... if not ... doesn't matter I love to write haiku and share them with the world.

Thursday Poets Rally

It's almost Spring and in my garden the cherry tree starts to bloom. I love the cherry trees. I love their fragility and colors. It's wonderful to sit down beneath the cherry trees with my family and friends. It's always great to be outside when the cherry trees are blooming.
I have written a suite (a set) a haiku to celebrate the cherry blossoms.

Haiku Heights, Fate

Another Haiku Heights Saturday. Today the theme is Fate. Not an easy one I think so, but I have to try.

Haiku My Heart

Haiku My Heart

Several weeks ago I discovered the Haiku My Heart weblog and I was in love with that weblog. I love to write today for Haiku My Heart a few haiku with Light as theme.

in pale moonlight
the young cherry blossoms
so fragile

at sunrise
the mysterious line between night and day
lightens sunflowers

the day has ended
in reddish and yellowish light
young Honeysuckle

I am glad that I have written this set of haiku (in the so called Kanshicho-style) to bring a little bit of light to Haiku My Heart.

Haiku Heights "Desire"

This week a lovely prompt "desire", I have searched for some synonyms and came up with the following ones: yearning; longing; wish for and require. There are more synonyms of desire, but I have chosen the ones I can work with.

full of desire
eyes of my granddaughter
on her birthday

so sad, leaves fall
I am longing to see
cherry blossoms bloom

the freezing cold
I am yearning for summer
the shortest day

a shower of stars
the little boy smiles
what do you wish for?

it just requires another one
