Fragile beauty

Fragile beauty, a few new cascading haiku.

Yesterday was a wonderful and sunny day here in The Netherlands and I could make a few wonderful photos in my backyard. Finally Spring has come, my Sakura is in full bloom and the Rhodondendron also. What a joy to see those fragile Cherry blossoms and the big flowers of the Rhodondendron. The greater part of my backyard is fallow and is waiting for new garden plans, but ... well ... it has to wait, because we will start first in our frontyard with planting new plants and flowers.

Back to yesterday. As I made a few photos of my Cherry Tree I saw a snail crawl between the young Cherry blossoms.

I had to write a haiku about this event (smiles). So here it goes.

between fragility
a snail seeking it's path to Heaven
slowly, so slowly

slowly, so slowly
a snail between young Cherry blossoms

seeks it's path

seeks it's path
a snail moves to the top
between fragility

It's just a little wonder to see this in my own backyard. And it's even a greater wonder to have the courage to compose a haiku on this event.

It's worth a celebration to see the Sakura in full bloom after a long, cold and dark Winter. But as I hear the weather forecast for today I am so anxious to see that the fragile blossoms will be gone soon, because we get strong winds and heavy rains. I can imagine how the classic Japanese haiku poets had that same fear when the weather changed and gusts of wind will tear the Cherry Blossoms apart. I am praying that not all of the Cherry Blossoms will be gone after today.

with tears in my eyes
I see how the wind is ruining
fragile beauty

fragile beauty
a gust of wind tears apart
Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossoms
as young as they are
torn apart

torn apart
fragile blossoms of the Sakura

tears in my eyes

It's heartbreaking to see how the wind is tearing apart the fragile Sakura blossoms ... I was so happy to see that finally Spring has come and now ... that joy turned into sadness, but ... next Spring the Sakura blossoms will return and will bring happiness again.

The Haiku Challenge, Day 1

Well here it goes. The Haiku Challenge 2012 to write in february every day a haiku on a given theme. This days theme (as you can read above) is Freestyle. In my opinion freestyle means 'write a haiku on every theme you can think about', but I think also freestyle means 'let loose the classical 5-7-5 structure'. And that's of course my goal. As you can read in the description of my blog I write in the so called 'Kanshicho-style', this is a style in which Matsuo Basho (1644-1694), a haiku master, wrote several years. In that style the classical syllable count isn't used. So here it goes.

such sadness
the spring wind has molested
cherry blossoms

The sadness is in the scattering of the Cherry Blossom. The Japanese were very anxious before wind as the Cherry trees began to bloom.

Another one, also on cherry blossom:

cherry blossoms fall -
it feels like an eternity
before summer

I think this first day of The Haiku Challenge was a good one. See you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

The Poetry Pantry, new haiku

For Poets United, the Poetry Pantry:

A new series of haiku. Well ... finally my country (The Netherlands) have winter weather. Strong frost and snow fall. So at last winter has come to the Low Lands. So I thought to write a few haiku on snow ...

first snow of the year
covers fragile blossoms
tears in my eyes

such a sad event
young cherry blossoms frozen
in a cold spring night

And at last another haiku, but this one is inspired on a well known haiku by Matsuo Basho:

autumn evening
a crow perched
on a withered bough

I wrote:

is that a crow
in the bare branches?
it's just black plastic

I loved doing this again of course and looking forward to your comments on this series.

Sincerely,

Springtime

For the: short-story slam of Bluebell Books
I have gotten an invitation to write for Bluebell Books Short story slam week 19. I am glad they invited me, so I will try to write a haibun (prose and haiku) on "Springtime".

SPRINGTIME

When the dark period of the year goes by and spring is coming I become happy. Spring is my season. After hibernation nature begins blooming and comes to live. As I see the Snowdrops come in bloom I feel how Mother Earth is reborn again.
The Cherry- and Plum-trees begin blossoming and especially when the Cherry tree in my backyard is starting to bloom I am so happy.
I have to give a party when the first Cherry blossom blooms. I call all my friends and family to tell them that my Cherry tree is in bloom again and that's worth a celebration. I love that moment. I feel a little child again and come to live after my hibernation.
Springtime ... nature comes to live once again. It's worthy to celebrate when the Cherry trees are blooming, especially mine of course :-).

I have written a lot of haiku about Cherry trees, but I have never written , as I call it, "my masterpiece" on Cherry trees. Maybe this is the one. In this haiku I hope that spring is present.

on winter's edge
the first Cherry blossom blooms
rain falls softly

Well ... did I succeed in my goal to write "my masterpiece" on Cherry trees? Maybe not, but spring is surely present.

Sincerely,

Spring, colors, new live and trees

Also for The Poetry Rally week 60

The Gooseberry Garden Poetry Picnic week 22
Another week has gone. Time flies like sand through your fingers. This weeks theme for the Poetry Picnic is Spring, colors, new live and trees. So I have to write some nice haiku about Spring. The season in which nature again comes to live. It's a lovely season to write haiku about. So here we go.

laying down
beneath the young leaves
the teenage boys

Ah! the cherry trees
in the cool spring breeze -
Ah! that perfume

such happiness
the young cherry tree
comes in bloom

this sunset
colors the white cherry
Ah! such a beauty

in the evening light
so fragile

the cherry trees
I am longing to sleep
under their colors

SENSATIONAL HAIKU WEDNESDAY prompt "resolve"

Join the fun!

Another Sensational haiku Wednesday. This time the prompt is "resolve". It's not an easy one, but I will give it a try. And I shall try to hold on this time to the classical syllables 5-7-5. It's not really my way of writing haiku, but I have to try that. This also is a challenge ... and maybe sensational too.

the sound of a waterfall
makes me happy

Wow! This wasn't easy, but I succeeded. This was a challenge, and I think maybe I should write more haiku in the classical 5-7-5 form.

Sincerely,
