This blog is about haiku. A classical haiku counts 5-7-5 syllables. Chèvrefeuille (the pseudonym of Kristjaan Panneman, a Dutch haiku poet) however writes his haiku in the Kanshicho-style. In the Kanshicho-style the classical syllable count isn't used. Matsuo Basho (1644-1694), a haiku poet, wrote his haiku in Kanshicho-style for several years, but he returned to the classical way of haiku writing. !!! Anonymous comments will be seen as SPAM !!!.

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (9) dreaming of her
Dear friends,
Awesome ... don't you think so too? This Summer Retreat is great, but also very challenging. As the host of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai I write almost every day a new haiku, but to write 30 days on a roll at the Summer Retreat, isn't easy ... but of course I set up the challenge, so I have to pick up the challenge myself too. So her it goes, my ninth haiku for the Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 "one with nature".
lying on the beach
I hear the whispering surf
while I dream of her

A wonderful experience, once in a lifetime ... making love on the beach ...
See you next time.

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (8) sparkling sunlight
Dear friends,
The Summer Retreat of Carpe Diem goes very well and I think it isn't easy to create a haiku every day, but of course someone tries ... someone like me:

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (7) an old boat
Dear friends,
It's almost one week on this Carpe Diem Summer Retreat and it looks like it will become a success. There are several submissions and its a very steady group of participants. So here it is my seventh haiku for this Summer Retreat:
an old boat
has become one with nature
in the backyard

Well ... I think this one is clearly "one with nature" (smiles).
See you tomorrow.

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (6) a river breeze (Matsuo Basho)
Dear friends,
As you (maybe) know I am participating in the Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016, themed "one with nature" and I love it. However it isn't easy to create every day a new haiku for the Summer Retreat and today I am making it myself easy. By the way it's to hot her in The Netherlands to sit a while behind the PC. It's around 35 degrees Celsius, finally summer, but this heat ... well I will not complain, because until last weekend the Dutch summer was a disaster with a lot of rain and low temperatures.

As I said ... I have made it myself a little easy today. I love to share a haiku by my sensei, Matsuo Basho, and a haiku written by me inspired on that one by Basho.
Here is the haiku by Basho:
kawa kaze ya usu gaki ki taru yu suzumi
a river breeze
the one wearing a light persimmon robe
enjoying the coolness
a river breeze

enjoying the coolness
© Basho (Tr. Jane Reichhold)
Basho wrote a preface to this haiku: "Enjoying the cool breeze on the bank of Shijo, an observance is practiced from the beginning to the middle of June. A special floor is set up right on the river, and people enjoy drinking and eating all night. Women tie their sashes correctly tight, and men wear their formal long coats. I see even the apprentices of a cooper and the blacksmith. They seem to have too much leisure time, singing and making noise. This is probably a scene which can only be seen in the capital (Edo, now called Tokyo)".

I love the full beaches in summer. Everyone has fun enjoying the warm summer and the coolness of the sea. Children laugh making sandcastles, grown ups reading, playing, drinking, eating and laughing. Summer is a wonderful season and I think ... everyone enjoys it.
Well ... that's my submission for today for the Carpe Diem Summer Retreat. Feel free to step in and participate, you are welcome.
See you ...

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (5) white Chrysanthemum
Welcome my friends,
Here is my submission for the first Carpe Diem Summer Retreat, a retreat of 30 days of writing one haiku a day themed "one with nature". In this haiku I sense the connection with nature in a very strong way. I hope you will feel that same connection.

Carpe Diem Summer Retreat 2016 (4) colorful rays
Dear friends,
Yesterday I started the 5th Theme Week at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, my daily haiku meme, in this Theme Week we will dive into the mysteries of the Ascended Masters and Ascension. In today's episode I offered a haiku, which I love to share here (in a slightly different form) also as my 4th submission for the Summer Retreat.

The circle of life partially caught in this haiku, a symbiosis between flowers and insects ... and the benefits for humans. Really one with nature.

Summer Retreat (2) a pebble
Dear friends,
The Summer Retreat of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai has started. The Summer Retreat is an all new feature at my daily haiku meme Carpe Diem Haiku Kai ... and you are invited to participate in it. This first Summer Retreat is themed "One With Nature" and you have to write a haiku (or tanka) every day inspired on your adventures in nature. The Summer Retreat runs to August 15th 10.00 PM (CET). Yesterday I started myself too ... so here is my haiku "One With Nature" - themed for today:

A sweet little surprise ... a treasure found, a white pebble. This haiku is very minimalistic it's created in the way of Santoka Taneda, a classic free-styler haiku poet.

Carpe Diem's Summer Retreat 2016 "One With Nature"
Good day dear friends and followers,
Maybe you know that I am the host of the daily haiku meme Carpe Diem Haiku Kai or else you know it now. At Carpe Diem Haiku Kai I have started the first Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Summer Retreat. This Summer Retreat will take 30 days and the goal is to write a haiku (or tanka) a day, so at the end of the Summer Retreat I will have created 30 new haiku (or tanka).
For this first edition of the Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Summer Retreat the theme is "One With Nature". As you maybe know haiku is known as the peotry of nature, so a lot of the haiku poets are living close to nature and respect the beauty of our Earth's nature.
This Summer Retreat will be awesome I think. So let's go ...
Here is my first haiku for the "Summer Retreat":
deep silence -
the sound of a fountain
and the song of birds
© Chèvrefeuille
Well ... it has started ...
I am excited and I hope to read a lot of beautiful haiku or tanka themed "One With Nature".

Tuscany
Dear friends and followers,
As you maybe know I am the host and owner of the daily haiku meme Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. This month we are on a "ginko" (a journey) straight through the countries which are part of the European Union.
Today we visit Italy and specifically Tuscany. Tuscany is a wonderful part of Italy with its capital Florence. Tuscany has a lot of beautiful places, but especially the sunflower fields are in my opinion the most wonderful of Tuscany.

Not as strong as I had hoped, but these two haiku give in my opinion a nice feeling of Tuscany. I hope you did like this post.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
