Just another haiku on "Summer Solstice"

Today was a nice day and I enjoyed it very much. I read some of my haiku and haiku from my fellow haiku poets. I also read a few haiku written by Basho (1644-1694). One of those haiku was the following:

departing spring
along with the people of Omi
missing it

It's about the "Summer Solstice" seen from the perspective of missing it ... Basho was on his way and maybe fell asleep and misses the Solstice of Summer. This haiku inspired me to write another one on "Summer Solstice".

at the seashore
wind of summer through my hair
the shortest night

In this haiku (similar to the one of Basho I think) it's not the longest day that's in my mind, but the shortest night ... the night which Basho missed I think. A night so short that you don't have to sleep at all (smiles).

Chinese Lanterns to Light the shortest night

This picture shows a Chinese Lantern ... it's made in Poznan (Poland) on the "Summer Solstice" or Kupala Night. Thousands of these Chinese lantern were used to set light in the shortest night.

Nice ... such festivals we don't have here, but ... we have Sunsation (*) a great festival full of music, dance, poetry and more. It's a great party and it culminates on the moment when the Summer Solstice happens.

Tackle It Tuesday, "summer solstice"

Dear Haijin,

I am so glad that I can start a new "Tackle It Tuesday" today. A few days ago Summer has started, so we have had the Summer Solstice. A new season full of joy and happiness I think. Here in The Netherlands summers are mostly wet with lots of rain, but we can have also very hot weather here. At the moment it feels like autumn here. It's cold, very rainy and stormy, but Mother Nature is in full bloom and all the trees and bushes are green. Birds singing their songs and .... well it's just a nice season.

This weeks theme is Summer Solstice. Enjoy the fun of writing haiku and please be so kind to write a comment after linking your haiku.

You can use avery haiku form you like. So it's not a sin if your haiku isn't a classical one. Enjoy writing and let flow your creativity.

Tackle It Tuesday, "Bright"

Another "Tackle It Tuesday" is on. Last week I asked my visitors to give suggestions for this weeks issue of "Tackle It Tuesday". And the suggestion given by Magical Mystical Teacher was "Bright".
So this weeks theme is "Bright." Choose your synonym for it of use the word itself and write with it a wonderful haiku. The haiku can be written in the classical-style (5-7-5, 3-5-3) or in the Kanshicho-style (free style haiku, the syllable count isn't important). Say 'the Western Way of writing haiku'.

Tackle It Tuesday, "sunflowers"

Another week has gone by. As you can notice, my dear Haijin and visitors, I use another linky tool. It wasn't possible for me to continue with the older linky tool, because of the costs of it.

So I have taken a new one.

This week's theme is Sunflowers. Those wonderful flowers looking like shining suns. Van Gogh did paint several paintings with Sunflowers and one of those paintings I have enclosed here as an inspiration.

And ... this is my haiku to inspire you ...

in dark times
sunflowers will give
joy and happiness

Tackle It Tuesday, exposure

Dear Haijin, i have a new "Tackle It Tuesday" for you all. This week the prompt is "exposure", not an easy one I think. I am a little bit late with publishing this, but please forgive me.

"Exposure" is a steel construction that's standing at the harbor of the town where I live. It's made by Antony Gormley.

Feel free to use the picture as an inspiration, but also any other haiku with the theme "exposure" is welcome.
Just have fun and enjoy writing haiku.

Tackle It Tuesday, "shooting stars"

Dear Haijin, another week has gone. This weeks prompt for "Tackle It Tuesday" is Shooting Stars. Maybe you have seen shooting stars, maybe not. In this region of the world we can see on a regular base the Pleiades come over. It's lovely sight and I enjoy it every time again.

Making a wish when you see a shooting star ... it's a fairy tale, but ... you never know. Think twice before you wish :-)

Have fun ... write your haiku and share them with the world. Let's go for it.

Haiku Heights, "Joy"

What a joy! A new Haiku heights Saturday. Finally summer in my country and that gives me a lot of joy. So to write a haiku with this prompt ... well it wasn't easy, but it was a joy and fun.

what a joy

finally summer in the low lands

tropical heat

tropical heat

the Fuchsia looks sad

dried out

the grass becoming yellowish

but also fun, rain is pouring down

Tackle It Tuesday, # 3 "frog"

Dear Haijin, another week has gone by. A new "Tackle It Tuesday" is almost starting. For this week I was inspired by the famous "frog"- haiku of  Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)

This is the most famous haiku of Basho. Even if you don't know haiku, you know this haiku. It's a very nice haiku with a wonderful story.

This poem was written on a spring day. He was sitting in his riverside house in Edo, bending his ears to the soft cooing of a pigeon in the quiet rain. There was a mild wind in the air, and one or two petals of cherry blossoms were falling gently to the ground. It was the kind of day you often have in late March - so perfect that you want it to last forever. Now and then in the garden was heard the sound of frogs jumping into the water.

Well ... the prompt for today is "frog" as you all will understand (smiles).

I am so glad that my haiku friends are so creative for "Tackle It Tuesday" and I hope that you all will be part of this new "Tackle It Tuesday". Have fun ...and enjoy.

Haiku Heights, "Pine"

Another week has gone by. Today's prompt from Haiku Heights is pine. I was inspired by a haibun by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) titled "The Narrow Road to the Deep North". In this haibun somewhere he writes about the twin pine and is anxious to see it, but the twin pine is cut and used for a bridge. Basho's "Narrow Road" is a classical piece of literature and for sure worth reading. Click on the above link and you can read the whole version of his "Narrow Road".

Tackle It Tuesday, day 2 "Magnolia"

Dear Haijin, thank you all for being part of the first episode of "Tackle It Tuesday". I was surprised that I had so many Haijin (haiku poets) visiting my new haiku challenge.

This weeks prompt is "Magnolia". You may write a haiku in every style, the only rule ... three sentences. This prompt will stay on 'till May 21th 2012.
